WHITE FOREST
CHARTER SCHOOL
Arch302B | 3rd Year Comprehensive Studio| Spring 2012 | John Dutton | Selected for 3rd Year Exhibition
The approach for this project is to create an open facility for students and faculty, but simultaneously not necessarily open to the public. The field of columns are created for a forest effect that would determine spaces of program and also act as structure. The ground floor is manipulated to create a hierarchy of program along the original sloped topography. Ramping determines the main circulation for the ground level, which vertical circulation is located on the sides of the building. The multipurpose hall acts as the central space that other programs circle around. Program is organized so that open public spaces are on the lower levels, while classrooms, that are considered more intimate public spaces are on the upper floors. The floor plates are offset to allow for views into the multipurpose hall, and among all other open spaces.
