WALK-DOWN HOUSING

MID-RISE HOUSING

ARCH302A | 3RD YEAR HOUSING STUDIO| FALL 2011

A constructed inverse topography is presented so that two distinct levels are created to separate private and communal spaces, allowing privacy for the 49 residents on the site. Juxtaposing constructed and natural elements, the upper constructed level will be the additional program of a sculptural park, while the lower level with the natural topography will consist of walk-down housing units.

Visitors will be able to access from Sunset Boulevard as residents can access from Sunset Boulevard or Myra Avenue. The park will have a variety of sculptural blocks, which will act as intimate outdoor spaces that lead to the entries of a set of micro-units. Large openings within the upper level park will create circulation pathways for visitors, but also allow lighting into the lower levels and the open private spaces directly below the openings. The open private spaces will be shared amongst the residents , of which they will be able to view into from their individual units.
