Remy LeBeau, also known as the X-man Gambit, has the mutant ability to tap into the potential energy contained within an object and transform it into kinetic energy. When Gambit charges an object and throws it at his target, the object releases the energy, thus creating an explosive on impact. Looking into the transfer of energy and the capability of an object transforming from a potential to kinetic state, the project explores different mechanisms that start to allow for the movement of different objects that is instigated by objects that transfers energy to create a spatial differentiation through daily activities or commonplace situations. The kinetic movement is incorporated to allow for differentiations in lighting, space, and enclosure to enhance an individual's use of space based on occupancy and precipitation, specifically.
Through the use of three different systems - domino effect fritted panels, moving partition cage expansions, and scissor retractable roof membranes - the building demonstrates the kinetic transfer of energy by creating subtle changes. Aesthetically, the three systems attempt to explore the idea of camouflage. The ranger station blends into its forest surrounding environment by mimicking the trees through reflections and patterning. The criss-cross patterning starts to imply the possibility that the building can blend into its surrounding without interrupting the surrounding nature.
